Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Bring margarine and water to a boil. Combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda. Add to margarine-water mixture. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.

Bake at 325 degrees F for 30-35 minutes.

Icing:

  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 16 ounces powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup pecan nuts

Bring cocoa powder, margarine and milk to boil. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts.

Ice while the cake is hot. Should this get too stiff while icing, just add a little hot water.

Variation: Add marshmallows and/or coconut
