Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 2/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • Sifted confectioner’s sugar

Instructions:

Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Beat eggs, then chocolate. Soft together all dry ingredients and blend in alternately with milk. Add nuts and chill for 3 hours.

Form in 1-inch balls. Roll in confectioner’s sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet, 2-3 inches apart. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F) about 15 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from pan. Makes 4 dozen.
